De Nederlandse COURANT, Dutch Canadian Bi-Weekly Inc, is North America’s oldest and most published Dutch language newspaper, and now the only Dutch newspaper, that regularly reports on events within the Dutch-Canadian community. It was the exclusive after-market distributor for North America of the well-known Dutch ‘Libelle’ and “Margriet’ magazines, has published two WWII books and through ‘Flowers to Holland’ is an agent of InterFlora in The Netherlands. It also maintains listings of Dutch-Canadian community events through its Community Calendar in the paper and on the Web.

Established in 1953 by Dr. and Laura Schippers in Scarborough, Ontario, the paper since 1990 was published out of Burlington, Ontario by Theo and Lia Luykenaar then since 2014 from Grimsby by Bas and Louis Opdenkelder. In The Netherlands the paper is represented by the ‘Stichting Belangenbehartiging Nederlandse COURANT’, administered by Jan van der Lugt.

De Nederlandse COURANT is published every month. As a member of the Ontario Community Newspaper Association, the paper is subject to periodic Media Circulation Audits. Circulation is around 2,500 per issue, with an estimated readership of around 14,000. The paper receives financial support of Heritage Canada through the Publications Assistance program towards its mailing costs.
